A ceremony in memory of all Irish men and women who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations is underway in Dublin.

President Mary McAleese, the Taoiseach Brian Cowen and a number of government ministers are attending the commemoration at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.

More than 400 members of the Defence Forces are also taking part.
