Body of boxer Sutherland to be exhumed

The family of Olympic boxer Darren Sutherland have been granted a licence to exhume his body.

The 27-year-old, who won a bronze medal in the Olympics in 2008, was found dead at his London flat last September by his manager Frank Maloney.

Meath County Council have granted the licence to have Mr Sutherland's remains reinterred from where he is buried at St. Finian's Cemetery in Navan.

It's understood his family were seeking a jury-based inquest in the hope of securing a verdict of death by misadventure rather than suicide'

An inquest into the boxer's death at Croydon Coroners Court in the UK was opened and adjourned last September'

Mr Sutherland's father has refused to comment on this new development but a statement is expected to be issued later today.
