Donegal County Council has reached an €800,000 settlement with the Revenue Commissioners, it emerged today.

The local authority is one of 88 defaulters whose names were published today, who in total paid over €16m in unpaid taxes, interest and penalties.

An audit by Revenue revealed that Donegal County Council underdeclared PAYE and PRSI and the resulting settlement totalled €799,928.

There had been a number of irregularities in allowances paid to staff. The council said it has improved its procedures.

The biggest single settlement published today was with company director Oliver Scott from Collaness, Castleknock Road in Dublin, for €1.785m.

Next highest was with Murray's Rent-a-Car limited on Baggott Street Bridge for €1.5m.

Revenue said that in the three-month period to March 201, there were 88 settlements totalling €16.43m.
