Two arrested following Dublin hijacking and robbery
Two men were being questioned tonight after a taxi driver was kidnapped and his car used in an armed robbery.
The taxi was hailed at around 10am and the driver held up at gunpoint before he was ordered to drive to Prussia Street in Dublin’s north inner city.
The driver was forced into the boot of his car while the armed raiders waited until a cash delivery van arrived at a local post office shortly after noon.
The security man was held up and a cash box stolen.
The men fled in the taxi, which was abandoned nearby.
A garda spokesman confirmed that two men were later arrested and the cash box and a firearm were recovered.
“There were no shots fired during the incident and no one was injured,” he said.
The suspects, who are aged in their 30s, are being held at Bridewell garda station.
