Gardaí investigate fatal Kildare stabbing

A Garda investigation is underway following the fatal stabbing of a 31-year-old woman in Athy, Co. Kildare.

The victim, who is Irish, was found with stab wounds at a house on Michael Dooley Terrace in Athy at midnight.

As part of the investgation, Gardaí arrested a 48-year-old man and he is being held for questioning at Kildare Garda Station, under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The scene has been preserved as Gardaí carry out a technical examination.

A post mortem will take place on the body later today.
