More air travel misery for passengers

Dublin Airport is to shut from 11am until at least midnight, causing travel misery for thousands of passengers, it was confirmed today.

Aviation chiefs said restrictions will also be in place at Donegal, Sligo and Knock airports throughout the day, while Galway will be closed from noon.

The Irish Aviation Authority said flights can land and take off at Shannon and Waterford until later this afternoon.

Cork and Kerry airports will be open until at least midnight.

The IAA said the restrictions are being put in place because volcanic ash from Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull has moved down the Irish Sea.

Another update is due at 4pm this afternoon.
