Court to give judgement in GRA case against Lenihan
A judgement is expected today in a case taken by the Garda Representative Association against the Finance Minister Brian Lenihan.
The association claims rank-and-file Gardaí should be exempt from the pension levy because their employment circumstances are different from most other public servants.
Among the differences are that Gardaí are obliged to work overtime but, while overtime is not reckonable for their pension entitlements, it is for the pension levy.
It is claimed Gardaí are losing around €300 a month as a result both of the pension levy and the postponement of a planned 6% pay rise.
