Limerick mayor calls for Good Friday pubs exemption
The mayor of Limerick is calling for a special exemption for pubs in the city on Good Friday.
Thomond Park is due to host a Magners league clash between Munster and Leinster on the day, one of two dates per year when pubs must remain closed.
It is feared Limerick city could lose out on a potential €10m revenue windfall because of the date of the clash.
Mayor Kevin Kiely said the closure of licensed premises on Good Friday is outdated and an exemption should be provided in this case.
"We are talking about 26,000 very responsible people that have decided to purchase tickets for a match," he said.
"The people that do want to have a drink or a meal on that occasion - there should be facilities there for those people."
