Public sector protests to start next week

Public sector protests over the cuts in pay introduced in the Budget are expected to start later this month.

Trade Unions have begun formally servicing notice of industrial action on the Government.

Unions have begun warning that a series of strike would begin later this month, with IMPACT starting action from January 25 and the Civil Public and Services Union on January 19.

The moves are in line with a strategy announced by the public services committee of the ICTU last week as part of its campaign against pay cuts.

The group will meet again today to consider the campaign, which could include refusal to cooperate with work practice changes, the introduction of work-to-rule as well as refusal to carry out certain duties.

Unions say they are determined to continue with industrial action until the pay cuts announced by the Government are reversed.
