Gardaí investigate Mountjoy stabbing

Gardaí and the governor of Mountjoy Prison are investigating an incident at the jail that resulted in an inmate being stabbed and four prison officers being hospitalised.

A fight broke out between a group of prisoners in the B wing of Mountjoy at around 11am yesterday morning.

One prisoner was stabbed up to five times but his injuries are not life-threatening.

One prison officer suffered head injuries while another has a suspected broken arm.

It is understood the fight involved two rival factions.
