Gardaí are investigating an armed raid at the Heatons department store on Main Street in Longford town.

Gardai are investigating an armed raid at the Heatons department store in Longford town.

Shortly after 7pm this evening an armed man wearing a balaclava entered the shop on Ballymahon Street and held up the staff.

It is understood he was armed with a handgun.

Gardaí say a substantial sum of cash was taken in the raid.
