Aer Lingus long-haul operations in jeopardy

The future of Aer Lingus' long-haul operations is in major jeopardy as the company seeks to return to profitability.

The former national airline says 70% of its losses can be attributed to long-haul operations and there is a real risk that it will not be able to continue the services.

Earlier this week, Aer Lingus announced plans to cut 676 jobs as part of a new plan to cut €97m from its annual costs.

The airline is understood to be seeking 229 redundancies among its cabin crew, including 102 workers based in Shannon.
