Support for Lisbon drops

There has been an eight-point drop in public support for the Lisbon Treaty since the last poll in May.

There has been an eight-point drop in public support for the Lisbon Treaty since the last poll in May.

Some 46% of respondents are in favour of the treaty compared to 29% who say they will vote no - an increase of just one point.

There has been a massive seven-point increase however in the number of undecided voters who could form the basis of a winning margin for either camp.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs said the poll now confirms that most people understand that our country's future is more secure as a key player in Europe.

Michael Martin said the poll gives cautious optimism but insists that nothing will be left to chance in the days and weeks ahead of polling day
