Dockers to resume LRC talks

Efforts to resolve the row at Dublin Port will resume at the Labour Relations Commission this morning.

Efforts to resolve the row at Dublin Port will resume at the Labour Relations Commission this morning.

SIPTU and Marine Terminals Limited are hoping to find a resolution to the nine-week old row over redundancies and pay cuts.

The strike by port workers has gained the support of dockers in the North and abroad.

SIPTU’s Christy McQuillan said his members have been backed in their action by their opposite numbers from far and wide.

“There’s been a lot of support for these workers both throughout Ireland, from the docks in Belfast and it extends internationally.

“Certainly the community around the docks has given these people a lot of support and have a tremendous belief in what they are trying to achieve here, which is to protect the maximum number of jobs,” he said.
