Attitudes towards migrants 'becoming more negative'

The Immigrant Council of Ireland says Irish people's attitudes towards migrant workers are becoming increasingly negative as a result of the economic downturn.

The Immigrant Council of Ireland says Irish people's attitudes towards migrant workers are becoming increasingly negative as a result of the economic downturn.

The council says many people are blaming immigrants as the number of people signing on the Live Register continues to rise.

The ICI is holding a meeting today to discuss ways to promote integration during the downturn.

It says leadership must be shown by the Government, NGOs and businesses to tackle negative perceptions of immigrants.
