Jarveys secure injunction allowing them into Killarney National Park
Jarvey drivers have secured a temporary injunction from the High Court that will allow them entry to Killarney National Park.
The jarveys were unable to access the park after bollards at the park entrances were raised early last Tuesday morning.
The court heard that this measure arose out of their refusal to attach dung catchers to their horse-drawn carriages.
Today at the High Court a group of 27 jarveys were granted an interim injunction restraining the National Parks and Wildlife Service from barring them access to the park and compelling the service to remove demountable bollards which were installed on July 14.
Lawyers acting for the Parks Service had opposed the granting of the injunction.
The service had sought to have the matter adjourned to early next week in order to prepare a full reply to the jarveys' claims, which are denied.
The order was granted by Mr Justice John Hedigan, who made the matter returnable to next week.
The court heard that the jarveys had been unable to work since Tuesday and this is the busiest time of the year for them.
