New US Ambassador takes up post
The new US Ambassador to Ireland is due to arrive in Ireland today.
Daniel Rooney is expected to present his credentials to President Mary McAleese tomorrow.
He will then host the formal celebration of America's Fourth of July holiday here.
Daniel Rooney recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the American Ireland Fund which he co-founded in the 1970s.
Announcing his appointment as US Ambassador with the Taoiseach at the White House on St Patrick's Day President Obama described the 76-year-old as a great friend of Ireland and an unwavering supporter of peace.
Rooney is also chairman and owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers American Football team - the reigning Super Bowl champions.
