Detectives probe Lithuanian's suspicious death

Murder-squad detectives were tonight probing the death of man who was beaten about the head.

The body of the 31-year-old Lithuanian was discovered two days ago at a house in north-west Dublin with gardaí initially believing he suffered a sudden death.

The man had been living at the property in Pheasant Run, near Clonee, with up to three other people – all Lithuanian.

But a post-mortem examination carried out at Connolly Hospital by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis found the man had head injuries.

The discovery prompted officers to upgrade their investigation with detectives now treating the death as suspicious.

No arrests have been made and gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

“Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious or unusual in the Pheasants Run area on or before the June 25, or have any information in relation to this incident, to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station,” a spokesman said.

Local Fianna Fáil councillor David McGuinness said the death was a blow for the area.

“The area of Dublin 15 has quietened down a lot in recent years and these sort of developments are certainly not welcome,” he said.
