PSNI release two held regarding murder of SF councillor

Police in the North have released two men they were questioning in connection with the murder of a Sinn Féin councillor in Co Donegal 18 years ago.

A 41-year-old man was arrested yesterday near Derry, while a 45-year-old man was detained after presenting himself at a police station in Co Antrim.

Both were released without charge last night.

Eddie Fullerton was shot dead by the UDA at his home in Buncrana in May 1991.

His killers smashed their way into the house with a sledgehammer and murdered him in front of his wife.

An RUC file containing his photograph and other details was later discovered in the possession of the UDA in Derry, prompting claims of official collusion.

Yesterday's arrests were made at the request of the Gardaí and the PSNI's Historical Enquiries Team, which is re-examining the investigation into the killing.
