FF down 32 seats in 14 councils filled so far

Fourteen councils have had their seats filled and the results so far show that Fianna Fáil are down 32 seats on those councils.

In Cork, three former FF Lord Mayors have lost their seats on the city council, while Sinn Féin doubled their seats to four and the Worker's Party won a seat there for the first time in 30 years.

Green Party leader John Gormley has said it has been “an extremely bad election” for the party and the electorate has given them a kicking because of “unpopular Government decisions”.

Labour leader Eamon Gilmore has said that this has been the best ever local election for the party and Proinsias De Rossa has said that the message from these elections is that the Government should go.
