Gardaí investigating human remains found in Waterford

Gardaí are investigating the discovery of human remains in Waterford city this morning.

They were alerted to a construction site at Egans Pub on Barronstrand Street shortly before 8.30am.

It's understood workmen came across what is believed to be a number of ancient human remains.

Work on the site has been halted, and the coroner's office has been notified.

An archaeologist is at the site and it is thought that a burial ground may have been located underneath the pub.
