An investigation has been launched into the deaths of two fishermen off the north Connemara coast yesterday.

The bodies of the two men, who were both from the Claddaghduff area, were recovered during an extensive air and sea search yesterday evening.

The men had set out to check lobster boats in a motorised currach yesterday morning.

The alarm was raised when another local fisherman noticed the boat on rocks shortly after 11am.

The Marine Casualty Investigation Board is investigating the double drowning.
