INOU concerned about spiralling unemployment

The Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed says it is extremely concerned about the rate at which people are losing their jobs.

The number of people on the Live Register has increased by more than 87% in the past year, with an average of 6,000 extra people signing on every week this year.

Economists are predicting that the unemployment rate could rise to a massive 16% by the end of the year.

The INOU says the Government needs to approach the issue with a greater deal of urgency in order to reverse the upward trend.
