Boy, 15, charged with posession of €8,000 worth of cocaine
A boy of 15 was today served with a book of evidence and remanded on bail to await trial over an €8,000 cocaine seizure in Clondalkin, in Dublin, last July.
The west Dublin teenager, who cannot be identified because he is a juvenile, had been charged at the Children’s Court with possessing the cocaine, and possession with intent to supply, at Lealand Avenue, in Clondalkin, on July 4 last year.
Today he was served with the book of evidence as Judge Bryan Smyth ordered that the case was to go forward to the present term of the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
The boy, who was accompanied to court by his mother, is taking part in a training course and also had a part-time job.
In an outline of the allegations Garda Karen Jones had told the Children’s Court she observed the teenage defendant in a vehicle.
“On sight of the Garda patrol car he threw a blue bag out of the window which landed in a garden,” she said.
The car was stopped after a chase and the defendant and the driver were arrested.
The package allegedly thrown from the car was recovered and found to contain a white powder which on analysis was found to be cocaine with an estimated street value of €8,000.
Earlier jurisdiction to deal with the case in the juvenile court had been refused and it had been held that it should go to the higher court, which on conviction has greater sentencing powers.
