Medical Council holds first public fitness inquiry
The Medical Council's first-ever public inquiry into a doctor's fitness to practise is underway in Dublin today.
The inquiry is examining allegations of professional misconduct against Dr Ross Ardyll, a GP at the Custom House Square Medical Centre in the IFSC in Dublin.
The female patient involved attended the centre on September 25, 2007, complaining of flu-like symptoms and tiredness.
She claims Dr Ardyll used inappropriate language when taking her history and advised her to engage in sexual activity as part of a cure for her problems with sleeping.
On opening this morning, lawyers for Dr Ardyll complained about the media attention surrounding his case given that it is the first to be held in public.
