Job fears at aircraft maintenance company

Workers at leading aircraft maintenance firm SR Technics will meet senior management today amid fears of devastating job losses at its Dublin base.

The company, which employs around 1,200 staff in the capital, has been in difficulty after losing key contracts with airlines at Dublin Airport.

Trade union chiefs at Siptu will be briefed by management on possible losses this morning ahead of meetings with employees.

SR Technics has lost a significant Gulf Air contract and three out of four of its longstanding Aer Lingus maintenance contracts.

Labour’s Tommy Broughan said: “SR Technics is one of the landmark centres of employment in the city.

“There are perhaps as many as 5,000 to 10,000 dependent jobs in the wider economy, as well as the crucial spending power that SR Technics’ workers and their families contribute to the local and national economies.”

The company, formerly known as Team Aer Lingus, has been one of the biggest employers in the north Dublin region for years.

It is understood SR Technics chief executive Bernt Kessler met Tánaiste Mary Coughlan at the company’s headquarters in Switzerland and is due to fly into Dublin to discuss the company’s future.
