Schoolgirl dies after being hit by car in Limerick

A young schoolgirl has died after being hit by a car in Limerick this morning.

The 13-year-old was knocked down on the old Cork road just before 8am.

She was taken to the Midwestern Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle, where she was pronounced dead.

The road has been closed for a technical examination and will remain sealed off for some time.
