A man in his 20s has been injured during an attempted armed raid on a security van in north Dublin this morning.

The incident happened near the Shed Pub on the Coast Road in Clontarf just before 8am, while the van was delivering cash to an ATM.

One of the security men was shot in the foot after being approached by three masked raiders, who subsequently fled the scene empty-handed.

He has been taken to the Mater Hospital, where his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The Coast Road has been closed temporarily while a technical examination is carried out and Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
