Gardaí warn against drink driving on New Year's Eve

Gardaí have been warning motorists not to drink and drive this evening as they celebrate New Year's Eve.

Random checkpoints will be put in place this evening as part of the annual Garda Christmas road safety campaign and gardaí will be out in force on roads across the country.

Assistant Garda Commissioner Eddie Rock said our drink driving culture has changed significantly in recent years, but that gardaí remain vigilant.

“We are doing a number of initiatives”, he said. “Spot checks will be put in place at various times – at times most likely to engage with people who are in breach of the legislation.”
