PSNI chief confirms interest in top London job
PSNI chief constable Hugh Orde has confirmed that he has applied to be the next head of the London Metropolitan Police.
Mr Orde was appointed to his current job more than six years ago and has just under two years left on his contract.
He said two months ago that he had no plans to move and intended to see out the contract.
However, he has now confirmed that he is seeking to replace Ian Blair, who has resigned following criticism by London Mayor Boris Johnson.
Mr Orde played a key role in the Stevens Inquiry into allegations of collusion between loyalist paramilitaries and the RUC and has earned cross-community respect during his time with the PSNI.
