Students continue protests against reintroduction of fees

Students at Trinity College Dublin today will stage a silent protest to coincide with a planned visit by Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe.

The protest group Free Education for Everyone says it hopes to attract the attention of Mr O'Keeffe on his trip to the university as part of its ongoing campaign against increased registration charges and the possible reintroduction of third-level fees.

Meanwhile, the Union of Students in Ireland is holding a street protest in Tralee today to highlight its opposition to the reintroduction of fees.

The USI met Mr O'Keeffe yesterday and was given an undertaking that it would be involved in any future policy reforms relating to third-level funding.
