Women rescued from Fermanagh house fire

Two women were rescued from a house fire early today.

The women, in their 20s, were trapped in an upstairs bedroom at the semi-detached house in Derrin Road, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.

They suffered smoke inhalation after the blaze was thought to have been deliberately started in the downstairs hall.

Fire Service spokesman Robbie Bryson said: “It could have been a lot more serious - there was a lot of smoke in the rest of the house. The indications are that it was set deliberately by someone outside.”

He said something may have been pushed through the letterbox and set alight.

The building was well alight when crews arrived at around 3.20am. They pitched a ladder and rescued the women.

The fire was reported by the women.

“It very easily could have turned into two fatalities,” Mr Bryson added.
