HSE accused of trying to bury latest misdiagnosis report

Fine Gael is accusing the HSE of trying to bury a report on lung cancer errors at hospitals in Drogheda and Navan.

The review of the activities of a locum consultant radiologist was published yesterday.

It found that nine patients’ lung cancer diagnoses were delayed for up to 14 months, taking months off some of their lives and depriving one patient of a 60% chance of survival.

Local Fine Gael TD Fergus O'Dowd is accusing the HSE of trying to prevent the findings from getting widespread coverage by publishing them on the day of the US presidential election.

The HSE has previously published a report into the misdiagnosis of breast cancer sufferer Rebecca O'Malley on the same day that Bertie Ahern announced his resignation as Taoiseach.
