Democrats in Dublin celebrate Obama gains
Democrats abroad gathered in Café En Seine on Dawson Street in Dublin to celebrate all the predictions of Barack Obama becoming the next US President.
To have any chance of occupying the Oval Office, Obama needed to win the states of Pennsylvania and Ohio, which in the early hours of the morning he did.
There is a great sense of hope for the future and that America is finally at one with itself.
One hundred and fifty years ago, slavery was abolished. Forty years ago, segregation was outlawed. It was said then that America would never elect a black president, but tonight Democrats in Dublin are seeing history being made.
