Construction firm axes 19 staff

A Co Antrim construction company went into administration today after falling foul of the slump in house building.

Administrators called into Lisburn based Roger Bullivant (Ireland) Ltd (RBIL) immediately made 19 staff redundant – the bulk of the workforce.

The company provides piling and foundation services to domestic and commercial construction projects and work has dried up.

Garth Calow of administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers said his appointment followed a period of financial difficulties for the company.

“The company has not begun any new work in recent weeks and I regrettably had to make 19 redundancies on my appointment.

“Work continues on only a small number of existing contracts.”

He said a wholly-owned subsidiary, Stratex Ltd – which provides engineering and geotechnical expertise to a variety of clients in the construction sector - continues to trade as normal.
