New appeal over body in identity mix-up

Police in the UK are making a fresh appeal for information about the body of a man who was wrongly cremated following an identity mix-up with a Laois-born man.

The body was found in shrubbery close to Manchester Royal Infirmary and mistakenly thought to be that of missing person John Delaney.

A funeral was held and the body was cremated in 2003 but earlier this year Mr Delaney's son, John Renehan, spotted his father on television and the family were reunited.

After DNA tests it was apparent that John Delaney had been living in a care home in Oldham, Greater Manchester, since 2000.

Now Greater Manchester Police have launched a fresh appeal for help to establish the correct identity of man found dead at the hospital.
