Fans gather for All-Ireland

Croke Park will play host to the highlight of the GAA calendar – the All-Ireland football final today.

Traffic restrictions are in place as more than 80,000 fans descend on the north Dublin stadium to see current champions Kerry take on Tyrone.

Gardaí have warned match-goers to get on the roads early as long traffic delays and a high demand for car parking spaces are expected.

The Dublin Port tunnel will open to cars in an effort to ease congestion on the M50 and M1 as tens of thousands of supporters travel to the capital from the north and south.

Supporters were warned not to park their cars illegally as clampers will be out in force.

Parking will be available at Clonliffe College and O’Connells schools from 10am.

Gardaí said motorists should ensure their vehicles are locked and personal belongings are not left on display.

Patrons should also allow time for garda searches before entering the stadium, they said.

Some 82,300 ticketholders will watch as Tyrone attempt to take the three-in-a-row out of the Kingdom’s grasp – although ticket demand could have filled a giant 120,000-seat stadium.

More than two million sport and music fans will pass through the turnstiles at Croke this year alone.
