Dublin man awaits sentencing for raping teenager

A 64-year-old Dublin man who raped a teenage girl has been remanded on bail for sentence later.

Anthony Daly with an address at Woodlands Road, Dun Laoghaire pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to three charges of raping the victim and one count of sexual assault on dates from 1998 to 2004. His guilty pleas came before the start of his trial for which a jury had been sworn in yesterday.

Mr Justice Barry White directed that Daly's name be added to the register of sex offenders and also directed the preparation of reports for the sentence hearing.

Ms Pauline Walley SC, for the prosecution, and Mr John Peart SC, for the defence, told Mr Justice White that the pleas given were on the basis that all evidence would be led on the 72 charges in the indictment against Daly.
