Post mortem due on body in Cork
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out today on the body of a 69-year-old man who was found dead in suspicious circumstances in Cork yesterday.
The man's body was discovered in an upstairs room of a house on College Road in Togher at about lunchtime.
Gardaí are expected to launch a murder investigation later.
It is believed that the man's wife discovered his body in an upstairs room of the house on St Francis Avenue on College Road and that he had suffered a number of stab wounds.
The State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy is expected to arrive at the scene today and a post-mortem is due to be carried out at Cork University Hospital.
Gardaí have appealed to witnesses to come forward and are especially anxious to talk to anyone who may have seen a man in his mid-twenties, described as being six foot tall and of thin build, on the Cork to Kinsale road between 11.30pm on Friday night and lunchtime yesterday.
They believe he may have been carrying two small bags or rucksacks and are also appealing to taxi drivers or anyone who may have given a man fitting this description a lift to contact them at Togher Garda station.
