Gardaí seek man in connection with Cork death
Gardaí in Cork are expected to launch a murder investigation later following the discovery of a man's body in Togher.
They appealed for witnesses to contact them at an incident room which has been set up at Togher garda station in Cork City.
The 69-year-old was found dead at a house on St Francis Avenue on College Road at around 1pm this afternoon.
It is believed the man's wife found the body in an upstairs bedroom at around lunchtime.
Officers from the Technical Bureau are due at the scene and gardaí from the local crime scene unit are carrying out a forensic examination.
Gardaí said they would like to hear from anyone who was in the College Road area between 11.30pm last night and 1pm today, particularly anyone who may have seen a male in his mid twenties, described as 6 foot and of thin build.
He may have been carrying two small bags or rucksacks.
Gardaí would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a man fitting this description on the Cork to Kinsale road.
The State Pathologist's office has been notified and Dr Marie Cassidy is expected to arrive at the scene tomorrow.
It is understood the man suffered a number of stab wounds.
A full post mortem to establish the exact cause of death will be carried out at Cork University Hospital.
