Irish environmentalists are accusing the G8 of engaging in spin rather than substance following its agreement to set a global goal of halving CO2 emissions by 2050.

Irish environmentalists are accusing the G8 of engaging in spin rather than substance following its agreement to set a global goal of halving CO2 emissions by 2050.

The world's richest industrialised nations agreed overnight to work with other countries to achieve the ambitious target.

However, the Irish branch of Friends of the Earth says the G8 countries are responsible for the vast majority of pollution and should be setting binding targets for 2020 instead.
