Gardaí have made an arrest following a bank robbery in Kilmallock, Co Limerick this morning.

A middle-aged man was arrested shortly before 2pm this afternoon, and taken for questioning to Bruff garda station.

Three males wearing florescent jackets entered the Bank of Ireland branch on Lord Edward Street in Kilmallock at around 11.10am this morning.

They threatened staff using an as yet unknown implement, which gardaí said was not thought to be a firearm.

An unspecified sum of cash was stolen, and the gang escaped in a red hatchback with yellow registration plates in the direction of Kilfinane.

Gardaí arrested a man in the Martinstown area of Co Limerick. He was taken for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí believe they have also recovered the vehicle that was used by the gang.
