Protesting fishermen have removed their blockades of ports in Cork and Waterford this morning.

The fishermen had been blocking the facilities as part of a campaign to highlight a number of issues they say are threatening their livelihoods.

However, they have decided to end the action following an agreement by Fisheries Minister Brendan Smith to meet the Federation of Irish Fishermen on Friday.

This week's blockades were mounted to highlight rising fuel costs, competition from cheap imports and the effect of EU quotas.
