Jersey fire leaves daughter dead and Irish mother critical

An Irish woman remains in a critical condition in Jersey following a house fire that claimed the life of her three-year-old daughter.

The mother and daughter were overcome by smoke before being rescued from their home near the capital St Helier in the early hours of yesterday morning.

They were taken to Jersey's General Hospital where the three-year-old lost her fight for life last night.

The woman is understood to be from Limerick.
