Tánaiste Mary Coughlan has told the Dáil that the Government has yet to consider proposals for 1,000 administrative job cuts in the HSE.

Reports this morning say the organisation is planning to shed 200 senior desk jobs and 800 lower-level positions as part of a voluntary early retirement scheme.

The scheme would reportedly cost €30m to implement.

Ms Coughlan confirmed in the Dáil today that the HSE would be submitting the proposal to the Department of Health, but said the Government had yet to consider the matter.
