Two men pulled from Liffey in separate rescues
Two men were dramatically pulled from the River Liffey today in separate water rescues that took place within an hour.
Dublin city fire fighters rushed to Eden Quay at around 1.30pm where the first man’s life was saved.
The second call out to Aran Quay was received less than an hour later.
An elderly man was pulled from the water and worked on at the scene until an ambulance crew arrived.
Both were rushed to the Mater Hospital.
A hospital spokesperson said the first man was doing fine, but stressed it was too early to comment on the condition of the second patient.
One onlooker who witnessed the first rescue, said scores of shoppers raced to the side of O'Connell Bridge to see the incident.
He said firefighters pulled a man, said to be in his late 30s, out of the water.
“He was well dressed and looked unconscious,” he said.
“They got him out, lifted him on to the Boardwalk and revived him.
“Then the man stood up the whole crowd cheered. He was able to walk to the ambulance himself.”
Yesterday, the body of a man was lifted from George’s Dock at the Financial Services Centre in the capital.
Gardaí are not treating the death as suspicious.
