Former St Luke's secretary due back before tribunal

A former constituency secretary of the Taoiseach is due back before the Mahon Tribunal this morning after being told to reflect on her evidence overnight.

Judge Alan Mahon warned Gráinne Carruth yesterday that she could put herself in a serious position as she is giving evidence under oath.

Ms Carruth denies all recollection of handling Sterling cash transactions on behalf of Bertie Ahern in the 1990s.

Her denial follows evidence from a former Irish Permanent branch manager who said it appeared several lodgements to Mr Ahern's account and those of his daughters originated from the exchange of Sterling immediately beforehand.

Most of the lodgements appear to have been made by Ms Carruth, but she denies knowing that any of the cash paid in was in Sterling.

Yesterday, tribunal lawyer Des O'Neill strongly challenged her and Judge Mahon subsequently decided to recall her this morning, advising her to talk to her solicitor and be quite clear about the evidence she is giving.
