Teenage girl held in connection with Drimnagh murders
Gardaí arrested a teenage girl today in connection with last weekend’s brutal murder of two Polish men in Dublin’s Drimnagh area.
Two male teenagers were released last week after being questioned in relation to the incident.
Pawel Kalite, 26, and Marius Szwajkos, 27, were attacked and stabbed with a screwdriver near their home in Benbulbin Road after a row involving a gang of youths.
Both died from their injuries last week.
Gardaí arrested the teenage girl this morning and she is being detained at Sundrive Road garda station in Crumlin under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Meanwhile, President Mary McAleese will tonight attend a special service in memory of the two Polish men.
Hundreds of people are expected to gather at the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Drimnagh for prayers.
More than 2,000 people attended a silent vigil near the scene of the attack on Saturday evening, including hundreds of locals and members of the Polish community.
The Dublin Archdiocese said tonight’s service was being held to allow people and priests of Mourne Road Parish to pay their respects.
The Taoiseach will be represented at the service by his aide de damp.
Members of the Polish community, Polish Ambassador Tadeusz Szumowski, Justice Minister Brian Lenihan and local community and political representatives were also invited.
