A postmortem will be carried out later today on a badly burned body discovered in Co Galway.

A postmortem will be carried out later today on a badly burned body discovered in Co Galway.

The charred remains were found in a shed at the back of an unoccupied house in Ballinasloe at lunchtime yesterday.

Gardaí have said that they are unable to tell if the body is that of a man or woman.

It was found during a search for missing local man Richard Carrick, who hasn't been seen since last weekend.

A forensic examination of the scene began yesterday and will continue this morning.
