Cork man guilty of raping two sisters

A Cork man has been convicted by a jury at the Central Criminal Court of raping the two teenage sisters of his former girlfriend.

Trevor Casey (aged 31), Closes Road, Fairhill was remanded in custody for sentence later by Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy who also directed that his name be added to the register of sex offenders.

The victims and their family said they wanted him named in media reports of the case.

Casey was found guilty by the jury on eight charges involving four counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault on dates in 2003 and 2004 at three Cork addresses.

It was day-five of the and the jury reached its verdicts after over eight hours of deliberation and having spent two nights in a hotel.

Casey pleaded not guilty to 14 charges at the start of his trial. The jury failed to reach a decision on three of the counts and acquitted him on three others, two of these by direction of the judge.

Both victims gave evidence that he raped them after they awoke to find him in their beds.

He said in evidence that he never had any sexual relationship with either girl and described as "sick" an allegation that of abused one of them as his son slept in the same room.
